Most of our new providers waited until they found a problem with their billing before they contacted us. The reality was the problems were going on unnoticed for many years, costing their practice thousands of dollars annually. ‘If it ain't broke don't fix it,’ can be a costly policy. The best time to fix it is now.
First and foremost in importance is providing the best medical care available. Second is the ability to be paid appropriately for the treatment you provided to your patients.
A lot of physicians feel they have more control over their billing if they have in-house billers rather than having a billing service. In fact a physician will have much more control of their billing and collections through an outside service. An outside service will provide you with a variety of monthly reports for review where your in-house biller typically doesn't provide any reporting. Between monthly detailed reports and our commission-based incentive, not only will an outside service be more driven to collect more, you will have many more reports detailing your collections and overall accounts receivable status. MBR constantly does internal audits on every account to ensure you are collecting what you are entitled to receive.
MBR religiously attends seminars throughout the country and belongs to numerous billing associations for current updates and industry and specialty changes that will bring additional monies to our clients. We do this to maintain our certifications as well as to generate more income for our clients. Historically most individual practices don't send their billers to seminars annually to learn the new coding and billing changes but rely on their billers' knowledge which becomes more outdated as time goes on. Once again, if money is coming in you will assume everything is fine, but do you know if you're getting all the money you can. When was the last time your in-house biller had an audit by an outside service? When was the last time your staff conducted their own internal audit and compared the results with industry standards and told you about it? How do you know they are doing a good job for you if no one has checked what is being billed to what is available to be billed and collected?
Every business has checks and balances, including medical billing. Is your accounts receivable within industry standards? Is your over 90 days within industry standards? Are your write-offs within industry standards? Are your secondary claims, rejected claims and your edits being handled efficiently and in a timely manner?
